Scott’s Nutz

BRANDING | WEBSITE | PACKAGING DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN

Scott started experimenting with smoking pistachios to share with friends. They turned out to be a real hit, so he decided to turn his hobby into a post-retirement occupation. When he reached out to me, he only had the business name and a delicious line of pistachios stored in inconsistent packaging. I worked with Scott to establish a logo and visual brand style that honored the Pacific Northwest, then created packaging for each flavor, a website, and some business cards to spread the word about his smoky treats.

The website needed to introduce the flavors and have a way for customers to contact Scott. He wasn’t quite ready for ecommerce, so he accepts orders via email and payments through Venmo for now.

I added a recipes section for additional ways to enjoy Scott’s Nutz smoked pistachios.

Until we partnered up, Scott sourced his own packaging. It wasn’t always consistent, and before filling them with pistachios, he had to apply at least two labels (that he designed and printed himself) to each bag – one of the product name and flavor, one for ingredients. Then his wife would write the expiration date by hand on each bag.

Chase Design sourced custom printed bags for less than the price he was spending, then created this custom set of designs which easily identified each flavor. Scott still handwrites the expiration date, but eliminating the mulitple label application process saves him and his wife a lot of time and effort.

The back of the packaging had a clear area where the pistachios could be seen from the outside.

Business cards were necessary for Scott to promote his smoked pistachios. I wanted to keep it as simple and let his packaging do the talking, since he usually leaves a bag of each flavor with shop and brewery owners to sample.
